A mezuzah scroll is a small piece of parchment inscribed on one side with the first paragraphs of the Shema prayer, starting with "Hear Oh Israel, the Lord is One."
Written on the reverse are the letters shin, daled, yud, (Shadai) - one of the names of G-d meaning “The Almighty" and which also can be interpreted as an acronym for the Hebrew expression “Shomer D'latot Yisrael” - Guardian of the Doors of Israel.
The scroll is rolled up in a decorative mezuzah case, which is affixed to the door frame of a Jewish home, office or store. The mezuzah case fulfils “Hiddur Mitzvah”, which is a directive to beautify a mitzvah.
The scroll should be rolled from left to right so that the word Shadai is on the outside of the scroll. It is placed inside the mezuzah case so that the Shadai is pointing to the front of the case. The mezuzah should be fixed on the upper third part of the right hand doorpost as you enter from the outside.

HANDCRAFTED MEZUZOT
Home > Modern Handcrafted Mezuzah
The commandment to affix a mezuzah on the doorpost of a Jewish abode is widely practiced in the Jewish world. It is rare to find a Jewish dwelling without at least one mezuzah on the front doorpost. In Israel, it is customary for religious Jews to kiss their finger and touch the mezuzah as they enter the house.
Laura used the pure form of a rocket shape in her mezuzah designs as a symbol of modernity. Each piece is created by hand using traditional silversmithing techniques. While the rocket is a modern geometric shape the unique finishing techniques provide each mezuzah with the warmth and personality of a hand crafted piece.
Laura signs each mezuzah (with the exception of the pewter range). The mezuzot are perfect as a gift, especially as a Jewish house-warming present. This range of modern handcrafted mezuzot slots and slides onto screws on the back of the mezuzah, so that no nail holes are seen on the front, producing a sleek, clean look. All the handcrafted mezuzahs are suitable for a 8 cm / 3 inch scroll. To buy a mezuzah, click on the "buy now" button.

In this minimalist mezuzah the simplicity of the rocket shape is emphasized by a very subtle hand cut shin. The metal is brushed to a satin like finish. A mezuzah should be placed in the upper third of the doorpost on the
right hand side of the door. |
