Laura’s Inspiration for her Judaica designs
Many of Laura’s Judaica designs are inspired by the 1960s mission to land a man on the moon. Although this was achieved before she was born, she has always been fascinated by the excitement and ambition generated by the race to the moon. There is an irony in creating futuristic designs inspired by what is now history. Combining this with her Jewish upbringing and identity, Laura has developed a distinctive body of contemporary Judaica.
Laura says, “In my mezuzah designs I use a simplified, pure rocket shape as a symbol of modernity. Each piece is given its own identity through the choice of metal and finish. For example, a mezuzah with a matte white surface emphasises the futuristic quality, while a distressed or copper patina finish creates a dialogue between past and future. I work on each design, adjusting chemical concentration, timing and temperature until I achieve the right shade and texture for that piece.”

The Helmet Fairy: Supporting IDF Soldiers
Since October 8th, Laura has also become known as “The Helmet Fairy,” raising funds to supply IDF soldiers with helmets, vests, drones and essential equipment they urgently need.
What began as an immediate response to crisis has developed into ongoing, hands-on work, sourcing and delivering reliable protection directly to soldiers. Drawing on decades of running her own studio, Laura manages the project with the same care, discipline and logistical precision that define her design practice.

Mezuzah in space
Laura was contacted by American astronaut Greg Chamitoff, who proposed taking two of her mezuzot to the International Space Station. At the request of a former professor and friend, the Apollo Mezuzah and Shuttle Mezuzah were submitted to NASA’s testing process and approved to travel on Expedition 17, which launched in May 2008.
The story was covered in publications including The Jewish Chronicle, The Jerusalem Post and Yediot Ahronot.
