It has long been customary to beautify and honor the Mitzvah of Havdalah by placing the spices in an artistically beautiful spice box, called a besamim. Havdallah is intended to require a person to use all five senses - to taste the wine, smell the spices, see the flame of the candle and feel its heat, and hear the blessings.

After many requests Laura has designed a Spice box (besamim) and Tray that perfectly complement her Kiddush Cup and Adam and Eve candle holder to create an elegant and contemporary Havdalah set.
Havdalah is the Hebrew word for separation and marks the end of Shabbat, separating it from regular weekdays. Shabbat ends when three stars appear in the night sky. The Havdallah ceremony comprises of blessings over Wine, Spices, Lights and the Havdallah blessing.
SPICE BOX
The concept of Havdalah is exemplified in this addition to Laura’s Creation Series. The distinctive cone-shaped pieces of the spice box made from two contrasting materials reflect the opposites that together make a whole - Heaven and Earth, Light and Darkness, Day and Night, the working week and Shabbat. To emphasize the opposites, the sterling silver (or silver plated) top is highly polished to a mirror finish contrasting with the matte anodized aluminum base, created from solid aviation quality aluminum. The lid is attached to the main body of the spice box by a neodymium magnet producing a unique and imaginative connection. It is created in highly polished stainless steel with a brushed finish colored disc - combining Laura’s signature themes of discs and cones, inspired by the encircling rings on the planet Saturn. The contrasting disc is attached by tiny screws and bolts and appears to be floating weightlessly above the dish – separating the physical world from the spiritual world. The lid is attached to the main body of the spice box by a neodymium magnet producing a unique and imaginative connection and is easily removed to smell the spices.

These stylish candlesticks are made from turned aluminum and are reversible. The Havdallah candle has more than one wick, as there has to be a combination of at least two flames, stemming from the plural form "lights" used in the blessing (Bore´ me'ore´ ha-esh, "Who creates the lights of the fire") |

HAVDALAH TRAY
Laura’s recognizable orb shape is echoed in this tray design. Made from anodised aluminum with a central glass bowl for the wine that is traditionally spilled and later used to extinguish the havdallah candle. The pyrex dish is durable and both components are easy to clean. |
